History
Original Company was founded by John McClelland and Jean-Pierre Pirault
in 1992 as Sirius Engineering Ltd, with the aim of offering engineering
services in the field of engines and transmissions.

Soon after Incorporation the Company was acquired
by AVL List GmbH, the leading engine consultants based in
Austria. It was renamed AVL Powertrain Engineering Ltd and
became established as their first overseas engineering facility.
A wide range of projects was carried out covering car, truck,
motorcycle, many of which are in production, as well as a
range of single-cylinder research engines. |
In 1999 AVL moved their UK engineering operations to Peterborough,
Cambridgeshire. The design team decided to remain in Shoreham, and
in January 1999 formed a new company Powertrain Technology Ltd (PTL).
In the same year PTL partnered with Lotus Engineering. A major project
was undertaken to design a family of engines for passenger cars.
At the completion of a successful 3 year engineering capacity agreement
with Lotus a partnering agreement was made with Southwest Research
Institute (SwRI), Texas. This partnership continues today.
The Company remains independent with all shares held directly by
or in Trust for its employees.
