Detail Design
The Detail Design phase is where all of the information needed
for the manufacture of components is defined, usually in the form
of detailed part and assembly drawings. Drawing content will vary,
depending if the purpose is for prototype manufacture or full production
release, but at a minimum, will usually contain:
 Dimensional
and geometric tolerancing;
Surface coatings
and finishes;
Materials
and heat treatments.
Detail drawings can be prepared to international drafting standards
or the customers own in-house standards and are always subjected
to careful checking before release.
| Some form of parts list or bill-of materials is
used for all but the most simple of projects which shows the
relationship of components to assemblies, component quantities
and other information as required. This might take the form
of a spreadsheet document or a database for more complex projects.
PTL also has experience of interfacing directly with customer’s
on-line releasing systems. |
